To Market to Market.... a Mornington Peninsula gem!
There is something very special about a market… all types of markets. The joy of going to a venue to peruse the wares, buy some treats and generally have a “self-care” moment… and it all happens early in the morning…. It is pretty perfect!
We are so privileged to live where we do. We both whole heartily believe this and the option for a market on any given weekend on the Mornington Peninsula is phenomenal.
The “ART’ of the market is not just the wonderful craftsmanship on display or the produce growers wares or the little second hand trinkets … it is much more. We were lucky to discover a glimpse of this on Saturday when we spent a lovely relaxing morning at the Emu Plains Mark
We took both our girls to Emu Plains Craft Market. The venue for this market is absolutely perfect – if you were going to write about a venue for market this would be it – beautiful stringbark trees creating shadows over the stall holders, the light wind blowing through the market lanes and the blissful sounds of birds is overwhelmingly calming…. even with 2 seven year olds.
We started with a fantastic coffee from our local mobile café - Little Olive Cafe and headed off to explore the stalls. The options for gifts here are magnificent. From bespoke earrings from Emeldo Design, scented play doh from Doh Rei Me or decadent desserts from Red Hill Mud there really was an option for all.
Our girls both had their faces painted with the lovely Faerie Emma whose approach to children is so genuine that they gravitate to her and are happy to wait patiently in line to wait their turn.
We both purchased the most wonderful posies of wild flowers and roses. We were stopped numerous times to discuss them. The openness of people to have a chat with each other at markets is intoxicating. Where do you shop where people are happy to have a chat with each other? Nowhere … however it seems at a market this is just something that is done. It is truly refreshing.
While walking the lanes with all the stalls set up it dawns on me the importance of supporting these vendors. Their hard work to bring together their dreams, their product and concepts to life needs to be supported and encouraged. Live local & support local.
So after nearly 4 hours of walking, shopping, eating and talking it is time for us to leave the market. We all had such a great time catching up with each other, meeting wonderful stall holders and genuinely have great quality time with family and friends.
There are so many options for markets on the Mornington Peninsula. Majority of them are free to enter, however you will need to pay for parking. Parking is generally run by a charity so all proceeds go to a great cause.
Come visit the Mornington Peninsula and enjoy a fantastic market too. It is great family morning activity and snatch yourself some fantastic produce and unique products.
