Ita Buttrose

Born in Sydney in 1942, Ita decided on a career in journalism by age 11. At the age of 17 she had her first credited article in a newspaper when she covered the Australian tour of Princess Alexandra.

She married at 21, and at 23 Ita was appointed as the women's editor of the Telegraph. In 1972, Ita and Sir Frank Packer created a new magazine 'Cleo' and this magazine would go on to include frank articles on female sexuality for 44 years.
In 1979, Ita was made an Officer in the Order of the British Empire and 1988 she received the Officer of the Order of Australia, and has amassed a collection of further honours since then.

Throughout her career, Ita has been an incredible role model for women and we look forward to this continuing as she takes on her appointment as the Chairperson of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Another example of one of Australia's wonderful women!
